The levels of Jupiter Hell are divided into 4 main regions, or moons:

Each moon has 4 possible side branches. Each game, only 3 of the 4 are available, and which order they occur in is also random each time. You can check what side branches are available and in what order at a Terminal, as well as Messages which can hint at what will come up in each branch.

The final region "Dante" only has 4 levels and does not have side branches, but has 2 optional special levels available. Some trials replace Dante with Beyond, which is also 4 levels. In both cases, the final boss is found on the 4th level.

Levels other than the first and last of a moon, and special levels, can have Level events and Side rooms.

Special levels[]

Each side branch has a purple lift on its final level which leads to an optional "Special level". If you don't take any of the side branches, level 5 will offer an entrance to a main branch special level. Each moon has 2 options for which special level will spawn on level 5.

Special levels are more dangerous but more rewarding. They have mostly set layouts and enemies, but also guarantee certain rewards, and have a much greater chance of a unique. Each special level has a "favored" unique which is more likely to spawn there than other uniques, but these are not guaranteed.

Some rewards vary based on what your "Most used" weapon group is when entering the special level, so for example you can pick a special level which is guaranteed to drop a favourite AV2 weapon and have some control over what kind of weapon will drop. This is based on the kill count on the character screen.

Special levels only have one lift. After leaving a special level, you are taken back to the level you entered from.

Moon structure[]

Each moon is 7 levels long, plus an optional special level, and has 3 optional side branches.

A side branch taken at level 2 will always have 3 levels and exit on level 6. A side branch taken at level 3 will have either 2 or 3 levels, and exit on either level 6 or 7. A side branch taken at level 4 will always have 2 levels and exit on level 7. Thus the total length will always remain 7.

Each moon (except the last), has the same structure:

  • Level 1: smaller level which cannot roll level events, or random stations or terminals except those which are guaranteed
  • Level 2: large random level, 1st side branch entry, guaranteed terminal to check branch availability
  • Level 3: large random level, 2nd side branch entry
  • Level 4: medium level with special name, 3rd side branch entry
  • Level 5: large random level, main branch special level entry
  • Level 6: large random level, 1st branch exits to here, 2nd branch may exit to here.
  • Level 7: set final level with special name and special exit to next moon, 3rd branch exits to here, 2nd branch may exit to here. Cannot roll level events. Boss fight.

Moon 1: Callisto

Demons and zombies.

Mechanics[]

Portals will spawn randomly at the start of each level, stand on them to increase your demonic attunement, otherwise exalted enemies spawn.

Callisto Anomaly[]

Dark area with central platform. Spawns archreavers when moving.

The Rift[]

Mechanics[]

Open valves on each level, kill demons that spawn, acquire essences. Can be pain, blood, fire, or acid. Demons that spawn immediately know your location.

Rerouting fuel lines causes toxic clouds to spawn. Rerouting all 4 spawns 4 Plaguebearers which immediately hunt the player, but unlocks the door for the special reward.

Black Site Vaults[]

Demons, 4 vaults with 4 turrets each, 4 red keycard doors. 1 guaranteed keycard dropped by exalted kerberos pack. Unlock all vaults to unlock the center island door. No loot outside vaults.

Dark Cathedral[]

Demons spawn in portals after approaching north and south wings, spawn in center area after both are cleared. Doors open once all normal enemies are killed (reanimates from respawn difficulties don't count).

  • Wish: sacrificing the frozen heart from the Frozen Temple grants one of three wishes.
  • Equivalent exchange: sacrificing any unique item will grants you another unique, randomly chosen between Death, Apocalypse, Void and Exosuit. This can only be done once, and cannot be done after sacrificing the frozen heart.
    • Doing both sacrifices at once is possible, but only in following order: first exchange, then heart.
  • If character is affected by cartharsis from visiting the Purgatory in same run, a runic code will light up on gray circles in front of altar. It reads from top to the bottom of map and shows a personalized (different on each copy of the game) way through purgatory to a special version of final boss fight in order to unlock a hidden Inferno! difficulty setting.

Additional rewards for higher challenge levels:

  • 1 items sacrificed -> 1 item from the ff. list: ancient phase kit, ancient salve, ancient mod pack, ancient heart elixir, ancient fire elixir or ancient blood elixir
  • 2 items sacrificed -> another item from the list above

Moon 4: Dante

Long winding path filled with reavers. Lots and lots of reavers.

Mechanics[]

Accessed by killing any enemy in the Dante Vestibule with a melee weapon, then walking back onto the entrance portal.

Being in the level causes you to become cursed, causing ranged weapons and grenades to stop working. It is advisable to go back the way you came if you cannot handle many enemies in melee combat.

Rewards[]

The Swordsmaster waits on the other side, and will drop the Soulstealer on death.

Lots of reavers, ravagers, warlocks, and medusas.

Mechanics[]

Accessed by killing all enemies in Dante L2.

Each portal will teleport you to an island where more demons will spawn. Since most enemies drop little to no ammo, this area consumes a lot of ammo.

Rewards[]

Alternate path for Dante. Each level has standard Dante type enemies including warlocks, reavers and medusas.

Mechanics[]

Each level of Ossuary will give a message "Your bloodlust has increased" when all enemies are killed. No player effects seem to be applied in the inventory screen for this message. The final level of this area has an elevator to Abattoir, Abatoir is a returnable subarea which contains a boss "The Butcher". Slaying the boss will allow access to the 3 reward rooms.

The Shattered Abyss
