Experience is a measure of how much you have learned. You gain experience from killing enemies, as well as completing some special levels and level events.

Earning experience will gain you levels. You start at level 1, and each following level gives 1 skill point to spend on a trait.

Clearing Callisto L1 will automatically advance you to level 2 even if you have not yet earned enough experience for it.

All master traits require level 8 to learn, and level 11 and 14 to advance to L2 and L3 respectively.

Special cases[]

You DO get experience for:

  • Enemies killed by exploding barrels, even if it was an enemy who blew up the barrel
  • Enemies killed by environmental effects such as poison gas
  • Mechanical enemies you disable or hack using either the hacking skill or a terminal
  • Enemies spawned by level events such as Lockdown or Exalted curse
  • Enemies spawned by special levels such as Callisto Anomaly or Dark Cathedral
