Attacks with weapons can get bonus damage. Critical chance is the chance of getting bonus damage, while Critical damage is the amount of bonus damage added, as a percentage. The same attack can crit multiple times, if the critical chance is over 100%.

The critical chance and resulting damage calculation (per bullet) is shown in the top right when you target an enemy, although it does not show multiple crits.

Grenades can also get crits, if you have an external source of critical chance.

Critical chance[]

All sources of critical chance are additive, with no upper cap. If critical chance reaches 100%, you are guaranteed one lot of bonus critical damage - further critical chance past 100% gives a chance of additional lots of bonus damage being added.

Many weapons have no critical chance modifier, and so cannot crit unless you gain more critical chance from perks or traits.

Critical damage[]

The default critical damage modifier is 50%, unless otherwise specified. Notably, many single-shot rifles have 100% critical damage.

When it is determined that a crit has been scored, the extra damage is calculated as a percentage of your damage. This is done after modifiers from perks such as Frenzy, but before armor is subtracted. This is done per bullet for multishot weapons.

Examples[]

Damage Crit chance Crit damage Calculated bonus damage Result
24 20% 50% 50% of 24 = 12 20% chance of 36 damage (1 crit)

80% chance of 24 damage

30 75% 100% 100% of 30 = 30 75% chance of 60 damage (1 crit)

25% chance of 30 damage

30 140% 120% 120% of 30 = 36 40% chance of 102 damage (2 crits)

60% chance of 66 damage (1 crit)

12 250% 150% 150% of 12 = 18 50% chance of 68 damage (3 crits)

50% chance of 50 damage (2 crits)
